Impact on daily life

Impact. 16th December
In Northern Ireland, ambulances are lining up outside all hospital
emergency departments because of the Covid-19 pressures on medical services.  The beds are full.  This is the first time this has happened in NI.  Numbers are rising fast and nurses have more patients than they can cope with. There is 60% shortage of nurses so they are very tired, anxious and worn out.  They work 12-hour shifts.
Announcements on which Tiers are to continue will be on Wednesday.  Some areas in North Scotland have been moved up a level and we know London and parts of the South East are also moving to Tier 3.  Some areas hope to go down to Tier 2.  Feels a bit like a game.  Also because of all the pressure by Health experts, it is likely the Government will change the instruction for Christmas.  Not change the rules, but say that people should be very careful and not go travelling around when they do not have to and definitely not visiting relatives who are vulnerable.
The weather … Long range forecast says that January and February will be wet and windy and warmer at the same time.  The Met Office says people should check that they have defence against floods.  They also say that Christmas will be colder.
Fed up with lockdown?  Brexit?  Lundy is a small 3 miles long island off the North Devon.  It wants 5 volunteers to look after the land. Every day will be different for the volunteers.  You will make sure that the sea birds and seal colonies are OK.  You have to give up your free time.  You get free accommodation but no pay.
