Impact on daily life

UK News 23rd April
On Monday Scottish and Welsh pubs, cafes and restaurants opened

There is still social distancing with face masks.   Zoos and theme parks will open. Outdoor sports up to 30 people are OK.
It is positive – Over half of people in UK have vaccine
Nearly 13 million have their second jab. People age 44 can now have a jab. No masks in the summer is the aim. A third of England’s NHS hospitals have no patients in intensive care.  There is a trial of the Valneva vaccine from Scotland.   For over 100 years, they used it against flu, hepatitis, polio and rabies.   Now they want volunteers to try the vaccine to prevent Covid.
Many UK charities have to cut services  – no money
One survey says 43% of charities have cut their services since March 2020.  The problems are because of covid.  The income has almost stopped.
Dry April  – now there are hill fires
One of the driest April months on record.  If we do not have rain during this week, it will be the driest since 1938.  Now there are countryside fires across the UK.  There were grass fires in Snowdonia, and in the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland. Other wild fires were in Cornwall, Dorset, Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Orkney in Scotland.
