Impact on daily life

Impact. 23rd October
Test and Trace system failing.
Boris says it was world-beating system.  Now only 15% of people tested got their results in 24 hours.  Health experts say the results have to be in 24 hours or else they are not valid.  Contacting people afterwards to say they were in contact with a person with the virus is not working either – less than 60% of closer contacts have been reached.  It cost a huge amount of money and is not working.
Over this weekend, more areas of UK have restrictions – nearly half of the people of England.  The Chancellor has found more money – billions- to try to support the people who are out of work because of the restrictions.  He is giving money to the businesses affected and they can claim money going back to August this year.  Wales and Northern Ireland have nearly full lockdown and Scotland will bring in a new system next week with five levels.  Labour just wants a complete lockdown for a short period of time but the Government plans to try to keep the arrangements local.  On Thursday, over 21 thousand new cases were reported.  The virus problem is spreading and could last through the winter.
New idea – Guinness without the alcohol.  Yes. Starting next week you should be able to buy Guinness 0.0.  If you love the taste but don’t like the effect or want to be able to drive afterwards, Guinness could be for you.  Only trouble is in a lot places in the UK, the pubs are closed.
