Impact on daily life

Impact. 19th October
There is a need to resolve the dispute over Manchester lockdowns.
The mayor of Manchester wants to have evidence that the plan proposed – Tier 3 restrictions – will have an impact.  He also wants better financial support for business that have to close.  There seems to be some talking with the Government but no solution so far.  The government is threatening to impose the restrictions anyway.
Is the UK breaking apart?  There is a big threat to the United Kingdom now because of the policies of the Government.  Scotland has been setting its own rules about the virus.  Now Wales is closing its borders to make sure people from areas where the virus rates are high in England do not come into Wales.  Northern Ireland has set up its own lockdown.  Manchester is refusing to cooperate with the Government plans.  It looks like the Government has lost control.
Test results are taking too long to come back. In the first week in October, only one third of test results from the main sites were sent back in 24 hours.  Only a quarter were sent back for walk-in centres in 24 hours.  For home test kits, only 16% were sent back – and that was after 48 hours.     Once the delay goes over a few days, the tests are not valid.  Some of the labs are just saying that the test is inconclusive – because of the delays.  Health experts say the tests results must come back in 24 hours.
