Impact on daily life

Impact 2nd October
It is strange but it seems that in towns where there is a lockdown, the virus cases have increased, not gone down.  In England, in 11 out of 16 towns that went into local lockdowns about nine weeks ago, the numbers of new virus cases has doubled.  This may be because the restrictions are confusing but because they are not strong enough.  Over 20 million people have restrictions but the virus cases are not being stopped.
And don’t get too excited … the vaccine if successful, will not stop the spread of the virus.  There are still many trial stages to go through.  Government says they will have priority for people at risk and over 65 years …it will take many months before it can be offered to everyone.  Even so, vaccines do not block all infections and do not stop people passing the virus on.  So social distancing will carry on for a long time.
Poland and Turkey are added to the travel list.  People arriving from there have to self-isolate.  Fines are going up to £1,000 if you break these rules.  Now you can only go to 6 countries without restrictions: Sweden, Germany, Italy, Greece, San Marino and Gibraltar.
A group of asylum seekers kept in Birmingham were moved by the company Serco, to another centre in London.  The problem was that several had the virus and the company had been told that the whole group had to be in quarantine for 14 days.  Leaders of the councils in Birmingham are very upset at this behaviour by the company and have complained to the Government.  This behaviour breaks the rules set by the Government and just helps to spread the virus.
