Impact on daily life

Impact 1st October
There has been a rise in the number of parents taking their children out of school.  They are home schooling them because of the worries about the virus in schools.  Head teachers say that parents are getting the wrong information and are making the wrong decision.  For many parents it is because they think the children will catch the virus in school but others think that the quality of education during lockdown was not good and prefer to teach children at home.
One Education Union is warning that the exams for next year are at risk as many schools are sending children home because of the virus.  This affects their learning.  Teachers need to know if they have to collect information on the pupils so that they can make proper estimates for next year.  This year teachers did not have enough information to give ratings of the GCSE and A-level pupils.  That made the exam crisis even worse.
The Leader of Newcastle Council has complained that the information from the Government about the lockdown is confusing.  Some pubs were refusing to close or have social distancing.  Lots of bad information was on social media and people were sharing incorrect information.  Some thought the council were trying to abolish alcohol altogether.  Newcastle said there was no discussion with the Government about the rules.  They were just announced.
