Impact on daily life

UK 20th January
Covid worst death figures On Tuesday, there were over one thousand six hundred deaths from Covid.  Total is now over 90 thousand.  Good news is that new cases are dropping, now half of last week.  Over 4 million vaccines have been given now.  They say everyone over 70 years will be offered a jab by middle of February.  New research says one in every 10 people in the UK have had the virus now.  Not sure if that is good news?  Hospitals say that people who got the virus, seriously ill, went to hospital, survived, then went home …. They are going back to hospital – nearly one in three are getting more treatment or are seriously ill again.  Long Covid is now a problem for many people.
Scotland lockdown continues
In Scotland, the lockdown will continue until at least the middle of February.  After that the schools may go back slowly … not all at once.  Different in England where 5 times more children than last year are in school just now.  Schools not happy because this is too many and they cannot teach in class and online at the same time.
School Covid tests stopped
Remember the Government said that they were going to test every school pupil before they came back to school. It was just before Christmas.  The teachers said it was crazy.  Then schools closed down.  But the Government wanted to have the tests when the schools opened again.  Now the Medicines Regulators (health people) say the tests are not reliable and would not protect the schools.  Teachers are relieved.  Looks like the Government has to give up the plan
