Impact on daily life

UK 9th February
Storm Darcy causes a lot of disruption across the UK.  There is lots of snow in Scotland and down the east coast of England.  London and the South East have up to 10 centimetres of snow; in the Midlands, there is 15 centimetres of snow.  Great for kids and snowmen.  It could be minus 15 degrees centigrade in Scotland.  That is cold.  Surprise, it is very hard for cars to get around.  Please be careful.
Online company, Boohoo, buys Dorothy Perkins, Wallis and Burton.  Good?  Not really because they want the name…  not the shops.  Looks like over 2 thousand jobs are gone.  There are 214 shops to close.  Last week, they bought Debenhams – again just the name – not the shops.  It is all terrible news for thousands of people – losing their jobs.
Ireland police are stopping cars from crossing from Northern Ireland.  They have new rules to stop the virus going into Ireland.  If people do not have a good reason, then the police send them back.
Looking for a new house?  In London?  Do you have about £950 thousand?  Well, you could buy the skinniest house in London.  It is in Shepherds Bush.  It has five floors but it is only 6 feet wide!  There is a kitchen and two bedrooms.  It was a hat shop.  Great for people on a diet.
Bad news for kids.  Boris says they may have to be more school in the summer holidays.  The kids need to catch up on their learning.  OK for parents at work; not so good for kids if the sun is shining
