Impact on daily life

Not all pubs opened on Saturday.  Many are small and there is not much space even for 1 metre apart.  Some have expanded outside but the weather was not so good.  That means there was less trouble.  People stayed at home.  Not so good for the pubs.  But there reports of over-crowding ion the centre of London and some trouble in Nottingham.
Did you notice the queues outside the barbers’ shops on Saturday.  There was a big rush to shave off the 3 months of hair.  Mostly men outside the barbers … women seem to have been more organised and booked their appointments.
Job losses this time in the Civil Service.  Each Government department had press officers.  Their job was to answer questions from the public and the newspapers, TV etc.  Boris decided to get rid of them.  There were 4 thousand of them … now there are only 30. Looks like the government wants to take control of all the information.  They say they will have “press briefings” like they have in the USA.  Boris says he will pop in for some of them.
They say now that maybe 2 million cancer screening tests have been missed because of the priority for the virus.  This means that a lot of cancer will not be spotted early and so treatment might not happen until it is too late.  Worst case according to report on BBC Panorama is that over 35 thousand extra deaths over a year
