Impact on daily life

UK 24th March
There will be £5,000 fine for people who travel out of the UK
if they do not have a good reason.  Some people pretended to do charity work but really had a holiday.  The new law which the Government will pass on Thursday includes this fine.  One couple invited 100 people to their wedding in Ibiza in June.  Looks like people will have to cancel or postpone and that may cost them.  This is the same law which gives police more power over demonstrations.  It does not stop demonstrations but the police can judge what to allow.  The violent protests in Bristol were about this law.
In Scotland, there was a vote of no confidence against Nicola Sturgeon.  It was presented by the Conservatives.  They said she was responsible for the failure of the case against Alex Salmond and she wasted money and did not tell the truth.  There was a nasty debate which attacked the SNP Government.  But the MPs voted against the Conservatives.  Nicola Sturgeon was supported by the independent inquiry – this came out on Monday. It said she had not broken the code for ministers in Government.
You know that the UK is deporting many people who arrive in the UK.  They may be asking for asylum or have committed crimes.  You probably do not know how much it costs to send them away on a plane?  In 2020, from October to December, the Government sent people away on charter flights.  Sometimes there were only five or ten people on the plane.  The cost?  £13,354 per person.
The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry got a job!  He will be chief impact officer at the mental health company “Better Up”.  He says he wants to improve mental health and get people to talk and share more.  He will not be going into work every morning with his sandwich box.  The job is mostly helping to promote better health.
