Impact on daily life

UK News  13th April
Monday April 12th, shops opened again.  Yes!
They were closed for more than 3 months,  From 7am, people made long queues outside Primark in London and Birmingham.  Primark is open from 7am to 10pm in 161 stores.  This is to avoid crowds inside the shop.  They hope to catch up on the sale of clothes and fashion.  There was also a rush to other shops like JD Sport and TK Maxx.  Beauty salons, barbers and pub gardens opened as well.  They had a surge of bookings.  It is not clear that the rush will continue for a long time.
There is a new (puffer) drug to help with Covid
You have Covid?  You have to stay at home?  They tell you to take paracetamol?  Now University of Oxford research have found a drug to help.  It is cheap and it helps with asthma.  You take two puffs, twice a day.  This helps people over 50 years old.  It works on your lungs – and stops some of the damage from covid.  This reduces the number of people in hospital and also improves recovery of at-risk people at home.  The name of the drug?  Budesonide…..  NHS is telling doctors to give prescriptions for it to treat covid, right now.
Caught again! – another blunder with the Covid app
You probably have the covid app on your smartphone.  It tells you about the new rules and about the virus cases near you.  It does work – we think.  Now the Government tried to send out an update to help to track people after the lockdown stops.  But Apple and Google say “you can’t do this … you are not allowed to collect information on where people are.”  The Government agreed to this at the start.  So Apple and Google refused to install the update.  Oh dear.  No problem in Scotland as they have a different app for finding out where people went … “Check in Scotland” separate from the main app “Protect Scotland.”
