Brexit issues continue – EU citizen rights, buying goods from EU
The EU is not happy with a number of points including the Northern Ireland arrangements.  Britain has not followed the rules they agreed.  They also complain that EU citizens who live in the UK for many years have difficulties with the system in UK to apply for settled status.  Worse still DeafStation reported about EU citizens stopped at the border when they had to go to interviews.  They were kept in camps where there was covid.  There are also Brexit problems if you try to buy goods online from EU.  When they arrive at your house in UK, you may have an additional bill.  If you buy something over £135 you will need to pay VAT, handling costs and import duties.  This could be another £100 or more.  The Brexit story will continue.
A holiday this year?  Yes, they said, one day, No the next day.
On 17th May people found out that they could have holiday travel.  Only a few countries on the green list.  Lots of countries (107) are on the amber list.  What does it mean?  Confusion.  Airlines say lots of people are booking to go to the amber countries.  PM Boris now says you should not go to amber countries – only for emergencies.  Transport minister says you can go but “use common sense”. Confused?  When you return from amber country, you have to isolate at home for 10 days.  Will people stay at home?  Government says that there will be phone calls to check up.  And if they do not answer, an officer will go to the house and check that the person is there.  They say they can make 10,000 visits to people’s homes everyday.  It is not clear what happens to people who ignore the rules.  They just risk covid on friends and family.
