Impact 9th September
Labour leader, Starmer, says the Test and trace system is going to collapse.  There are not enough tests and they are taking too long.  Some people were told to go from London to Scotland if they wanted a test.  The Government says there will be anew lab but it will take at least another 2 weeks to be able to help.  Everyone is worried about care homes and schools which are opening up.  All the experts say we are heading for a big increase in virus cases while the testing system does not work properly.
There are now nearly the same number of cases of virus in children up to the age of 9 years than there are for people over the age of 70 years.  The idea that children do not get the virus is just wrong.  The figure are from the 17th to the 30th August.  The biggest increases are in the age group 20 to 29 years – nearly 4, thousand cases.  Not so many people are going to hospital but it is not known what damage the virus causes even when the symptoms are mild.
The National Audit office which looks at Government finances says that the Government spent £210 billion on the virus emergency – just in 6 months.  That does not mean Boris will pay, it means the country and the tax payers will have to pay. A report from the Clean Air Fund says that in the UK there is air pollution. This is causing people to be off work and sick for 3 million days each year.  This increases costs in the NHS as well.  During lockdown air quality got better but if people are using their cars to go back to work this will be bad for the air.  They say that UK has to find better, cleaner ways for people to travel around.
