Impact on daily life

Impact 17th November
Boris is self isolating as well as 6 Conservative MPs and two other people supporting them.  Why? Because one of the MPs tested positive after the meeting.  Where was the meeting?  Indoors in Number 10 Downing Street.  Was this following the guidelines for lockdown?  Boris says yes. BUT the pictures released show Boris and the MP standing close together and not wearing masks.  When the Minister for Health was asked about this, he said they only sometimes wear masks in Downing Street.  The official guidance does not allow meetings indoors of people from different houses.  It seems that ordinary people have to follow the rules but not the MPs.  Same old story.
It looks like the area around Glasgow will go into Level 4 as the virus cases are not going down.  Nicola Sturgeon will make an announcement today.  Level 4 is close to a full lockdown with non-essential shops, pubs, restaurants all closed except for take-aways.  Schools stay open.  This will affect 1.75 million people.
The teachers’ union is not happy.  It reports that some teachers have been told to switch off their Covid-19 app and to ignore warnings to self-isolate.  The schools are short of staff and they need the teachers to continue to come to school even if they are supposed to be at home.  There is a lot of disruption in schools because if the teacher catches the virus the kids have to go home.
According to the local Governments, at least 250 thousand children are out of school now.  There has been a big rise in the number of parents who are keeping children at home and “home-schooling” them.  It depends how you count the numbers but the figure could be more like one million kids out of school.  No one really knows if they are getting a good education away from the classroom.
