Impact on daily life

UK 23rd  February
There is a lot of hope as there is new evidence from Scotland that the vaccines are working very well to stop the virus spreading.  Just with the one jab, the numbers of people going to hospital was much less… they say it is down by 81%.
The PM wants schools to open in England by March 8th but in Wales the secondary schools will not open until after Easter.  That might keep the kids happy but is a worry for their education.
Covid update
Good news about the vaccine but there are problems with covid.  There were over 10 thousand new cases on Monday.  With over 18 thousand people in hospital.  Now we are over 120 thousand people who have died.  Nearly everyone knows someone who has been ill with the virus.
There is a continuing problem in Scotland where the ex-First Minister Alex Salmond claims there is a conspiracy (campaign) against him.  Nicola Sturgeon hopes he will produce evidence when he talks to the inquiry on Wednesday.  This dispute is a problem because there will be elections in Scotland in May.
This is a good story… A local councillor (Malcom Kennedy) from Liverpool has been living in Spain for the last 12 months.  He says he was there visiting in March 2020 and stayed there because of the lockdown.  He did come back to the UK for a short time but went back to Spain for Christmas.  He says he can do all his work from Spain.  That is not why he was elected.  People are angry.
