Police in Scotland say they have had to break up over 3,000 parties since August. Even in places where there are severe restrictions, people are still ignoring the rules. In one University there were 270 students having a party in the halls of residence. In Edinburgh, the police had to fight with people having a party. In some places Airbnb houses are being booked and then the people have a big party there.
Researchers are trying to collect data so that they can show the public how the country is managing the virus. They say there are gaps in the data. For example, they cannot tell if the people who are supposed to self isolate for 14 days, are actually doing that. They cannot tell if the track and trace systems is working or not. We have no idea how many people with symptoms are isolating in England. Other work says that only 20% of people actually fully isolate when they are told to do so because of having contact with the virus. This makes it impossible to control what is happening across the country.
There are worries about the airports in the UK. The Airports Council says that nearly 200 airports in the UK and across Europe (out of 700 airports) will go bust if there is not an increase in passengers before the end of the year. The numbers of passengers are down by at least 75%. People do not know where they can travel and whether they will be stuck in another country. Airports will have to raise their fees but everyone objects to that as well.
