Big arguments over schools. Government says most schools are open. School commissioner says only 15% of children are going to schools. She says the problem is more than just missing lessons. The children need to have social activity with others and have emotional development. Many secondary school children only have one morning in every two weeks – many children no time at school. One thousand five hundred doctors have signed a letter to Boris warning of the damage to children and saying the Government must get a plan. Labour Party has doubts that the situation can be fixed before September. Boris promised that all children would have four weeks of school time before the summer holidays. Looks like another target UK will not be able to reach.
There was also a letter to the newspaper from deaf organisations saying that deaf schoolchildren are suffering and they are being ignored.
There are warnings from theatres in UK that they cannot continue if there is social distancing. Seats in theatres are too close together. Actors are losing their contracts and the big shows in London will not open up again until next year.
