Black Lives Matter cancelled demonstration for this Saturday in London because of threats from “hate groups” who want to attack them. They say they want peaceful demonstration. But extreme right groups want to have a “defend our memorials” event in London at the same time. Concern that the white men from hate groups will try to create problems for black people.
Nine million people are in the furlough scheme. Two million are in London and over 600 thousand in Scotland. 45 % of workers in Brent in London are on furlough. Glasgow East, Blackpool have over one third of the workers on furlough. Most people who are furloughed are in shops and suppliers for shops; next is hotels and restaurants, then factories. It costs £17 billion. The ordinary taxpayer is paying for this.
Small bookshops opening next week are very nervous. Customers (only a few allowed in at a time) have to wear gloves and use hand sanitiser before touching books. If people pick up a book but decide not to buy, it has to go on a trolley and be kept away for 72 hours.
Bristol Wild Place zoo is happy to open again. They say the animals will be curious because they have not seen the visitors for a long time. They may try to be more friendly. Don’t let the kids get too close!
