6th May is voting day across the country
– they expect low numbers of people
They say this is an important election.  There are elections for Mayors and police chiefs.  People are not excited about these.  They are not very interested in local councils.  Scotland and Wales do have important elections for their parliaments.  The results could affect the whole of the UK.  Results will be coming out on Friday and Saturday.
In 2020, in England and Wales, over 7 thousand people died from alcohol.  This is up by 20%.  This is long term drinking – it affects the liver.  It just got worse when covid started.  The pubs closed but people were drinking more at home.  Nearly double the number of men died compared to women.
UK Government cuts funding for Arts in Universities
Many people in the arts, music, dance, drama worlds are very angry.  The Government will cut the grant to colleges where there are course in the Arts.  The Government says it is not a priority.  But the campaign will start to try to protect the courses which are for creative people – for many people who are not academic.  This could affect deaf students. Four year old boy saves mum with 999 car
Woman in Nottingham collapsed at home.  Her son (4 years old) pressed emergency on her phone.  He has a car which has 999 on it.   He has a speech problem.  The operator talked to him for 17 minutes.  But they could only understand the words “mumma fell down”.  The police traced the call and were going to break down the door, but the boy passed the keys through the letterbox.  Police say they will go back to give him an award for his bravery.  He saved his mum.
