The Government planned to lift restrictions in two areas near Manchester but the Local Council said no … there are too many new cases.  The Labour Party said the Government was just trying to remove restrictions to please the local MPs who are Conservatives.
Finance experts are warning that there will have to be big tax increases to pay for all the borrowing the Government has done.  The taxes need to be in income tax or national insurance or VAT.  But the taxes should not start just now – wait until the general finances are better and people are back to work.
The Secretary of Education, Williamson, was told 2 weeks before that the A-Level results were going to be a problem.  But the Government carried on with the results anyway because they thought pupils could appeal.  He denied he knew about the problems and then later on when it all blew up, he blamed the Department of Education and also the exams body.  The Chief Civil Servant for Education had to resign because of the blame.  Williamson did not resign.  Labour Party said Williamson caused the chaos.
In Central London, they say less than 10% of workers have returned to the office after their holidays this week.  Boris said they should come back but the big companies did not force people to come back.  They chose to stay safe at home.
