Impact on daily life

Impact  18th September
Does not look good.  There are 10 million people in the UK already close to lockdown. (Leeds is the next on the list) .  The testing system is not able to cope.  They say 90% of tests are not being analysed fast enough and results are not coming back in 24 hours.  Contact tracers are taking two weeks to contact people – which means the people are already out of the quarantine time.  Many young people are getting the virus.  People are losing confidence in the Government.  There are fears that we will have to have another lockdown.  Luckily at the moment the number of people going into hospital is much less but even Boris says that there could be more people getting seriously ill.  Let’s hope that a plan will appear.
The Committee which looks at how money is spent in the Government says that the Home Office is spending £400 million on control of immigration but does not know what effect it has – does not have evidence.  The report says they are not learning from big mistakes like Windrush when Jamaicans were refused work and sent home even though they lived in the UK for 30 years.  The Home Office does not know how many illegal immigrants there are in the UK.
Good news …. This year, pupils from poorer homes got better GCSE results than expected and are catching up on pupils from more wealthy homes.  Better results mean that more pupils can go on to study at a higher level and to get better training for life.
