Prince Philip had some connection to deaf people.

Prince Philip was an active patron of the RNID. In 1988, he was at RNID to remember the founding of RNID in 1911 by Leo Bonn, a deaf banker.  Prince Philip himself had hearing aids.  In 1972, Prince Philip opened the new Leeds Deaf Club. They did not have a licence for alcohol.  The Duke contacted the licence people and the club got the licence. His mother, Princess Alice was born deaf. She learned to lip-read and to speak English, German and Greek. She had 10 children and her life was difficult and had a mental illness. During WW2, in Athens, she helped some Jewish people who were hiding from the Nazis. She came to live in London and died in 1969. She is buried in Jerusalem.
