Impact on daily life

Impact UK 22nd June
Psychologists in education are warning that there will be a lot of mental health problems for children because they could not go to school for 6 months (March to September).  It does not appear that the Government is listening to them. They want counselling in all schools and a summer programme to help.
People who had to stay at home and who were vulnerable received a government food box.   But the box was not as healthy as it should be.  There were crisps and cheap white bread and chocolates.  This was not the right food for older people.  The Government as usual, had given contracts to outside companies and then had not checked on what was being sent.
Poorer regions of the UK have suffered more from cuts.  We probably know this but a new report has shown that over the last ten years, local councils which are run by Labour have had much bigger cuts than those run by Conservative.  In 2010 the Government said they would protect the most vulnerable people but it did not happen.  Areas like Hackney and Newham in London and Knowsley in Manchester suffered the most.  The Government changed the way it calculated the grants and removed the extras needed for people with most needs.  The impact has been enormous.
