Covid patients sent to care homes
The pressure on hospitals is huge.  There is a new “home and hotel” plan.  This means that Covid patients are leaving hospital early before they finish their treatment.  This makes beds free in the hospital for more seriously ill.  The Covid patients can go to a hotel or a care home or even back to their family.  There is support from Red Cross or soldiers.  The plan is that people can get better away from the hospital so that the hospital can take in all the new cases.
The Home Secretary blames the people
InTuesday briefing the Home Secretary says the police are doing a good job and they have fined more than 45 thousand people for breaking the rules.  She blames the people for ignoring the rules.  She says they are putting everyone at risk.  Most people think the rules are not clear – she says they are.
Hospital staff are suffering
Nearly half of intensive care staff have post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression or anxiety.  We usually find that soldiers or people in accidents get this problem.  Because of Covid and the numbers of ill people in hospital, the staff have these mental problems.  It is like a bad shock and too much pressure.  When you have PTSD, you think you can harm yourself or even commit suicide.
