Progress ….nearly 138,000 got the vaccine in the first week. The Minister in charge of the roll-out of the new vaccine said “it was a really good start”. But they have to do more and fast. The Government wants to offer vaccination to everyone over 50 years of age. The whole process will cost up to £12 billion. In the second week there will be 80 hospitals giving the vaccine – 10 more than last week. More difficult to provide vaccine to care homes at the moment because care homes must have very cold storage to keep large quantities of vaccines.
Police officer Harper was killed by 3 men who were trying to steal. They tried to make a getaway but he was caught behind their car and dragged for over 1 mile. The Court gave the men “soft” (short) times for manslaughter (not murder). Two of them were only 18 years old. They appealed, hoping for shorter prison times. The public were very angry that their sentence was too short. One got 16 years and two got 13 years. The Appeal Court rejected the appeals and did not change the sentence. The judges were following the law exactly. The police officer was only married for 4 weeks and left a very sad wife. She is still fighting for longer sentences especially for emergency services workers like police, medical, social workers.
Have you got a season ticket on the train? What about the rises in cost? A telecommunications manager is paying £15,400 this year to go to work. He travels to London from Rugby. When he started 23 years ago, he only paid £3,000. Will it be cheaper if he drives every day? Maybe not,. with the cost of petrol and the congestion charge. And it is 90 miles and even in quiet times it could take 2 hours. He is thinking about it.
