Impact on daily life

Impact 21st July
Good news for some.  Nearly 900 thousand workers will have a pay rise of 3% as a reward for their work in the pandemic.  The money will go to teachers, doctors, police, prison officers, and the army.  There are also increases for senior civil servants.  For other people, not so good.  For average families, their income has dropped by over 4%.  This is the worst for over 40 years.  This has happened because of job losses.  The Government has paid to have people on furlough but the impact on ordinary people is still very bad.
Bad behaviour in schools means boys are suspended from school more than girls.  However, some new information says that girls are more likely to be sent to other schools when problems happen.  What’s the difference?  If you are suspended, then you receive special help; just being transferred to another school does not solve the problem.
People are worried about travelling on bus or train.  The government has warned them to try to avoid public transport.  So what has happened?  There is a big rise in people buying second hand cars to get around more safely.  There is also an increase in scooters, mopeds and bikes.  This could be good news for car dealers but it might not help the environment.
