Impact on daily life

Impact 10th July
After 1st August this year, people over 75 years will have to pay £157 for their television licence.  It was free.
From today, Scottish people now have to wear a mask when they go into shops.  Most people accept this even though they do not like it.  Some say they have been buying stuff in advance so they don’t have to go to shops.  Home made cloth masks are OK but need to be washed.  The paper masks you see on television, have to be thrown away after using one time.
The stories about abuse in gymnastics are increasing.  There will have to be an investigation.  Many children and right up to Olympics level were shouted at and forced to keep going even when injured.  Many had emotional abuse about their shape or size.  Some said they were frightened to eat or drink on the days when they had to go on the weighing scales.  There was a lot of fear about complaining because they would be ignored or kicked out.  Parents did not know how serious this was.
Only half the usual number of people went to pubs and restaurants when they opened last week.  People are still worried about the virus because the test and trace system is not working.  Many restaurants did not open anyway as they are unsure about the risks and the costs.
UK advises not to go on cruise ships for the moment.  Still too much risk.
