Impact on daily life

Impact 4th September
Schools have been opening up across the country  but the children who have special needs have been forgotten.  Because they are vulnerable with other conditions as well, it is much more complicated to prepare the school for them.  We know about the situation of deaf children and masks but for many others the parents will not send the children back.  The Government has forgotten that special needs children will need extra personal helpers and that the arrangements in school do not allow distancing.  One study says that parents said their children were less stressed when at home in lockdown than when they had to go to school.
The numbers of virus cases is increasing in Leeds and they may have to go back to restrictions like they have done in Manchester and Leicester.
More worries about Brexit.  The groups involved in transport like the lorry drivers association have contacted the Government to say that there will be big problems at the end of the year even if there is a deal with the EU.  They say that the systems are not ready to handle all of the transport.  It turns out that the Government has made plans to set up lorry parks when there are delays – they will not need to ask for permission to take over areas so that they can manage the traffic jams of lorries.  The letter says they do not think the customs people are trained and the computer systems are not ready.  They also say that because of the virus lots of companies are not ready as they have just been trying to keep the business going.
There is another report which says the Government has made all their plans secret, about Brexit and so the different departments and organisations were not allowed to talk to each other and so there has been no proper coordination.
