Big fines for students in Nottingham.
Police raided a house in Nottingham.  The organisers lied and said everyone had left the party but police found 30 people hiding in the house.  The student organisers said the police were spoiling their fun – even though Nottingham is in Tier 2 and so, no house parties.  The four students who organised it were fined £10,000 each and got suspended from University.
Many people who have lost their jobs in the lockdowns have applied to get Universal Credit.  Nearly 300 thousand have been refused because of different rules.  That means a lot of families are now having to use the food banks in order to feed the family.  The gap between rich people and poor people is getting wider all the time and more people who were OK are struggling now.  It would be interesting to find out if deaf people are able to access the food banks – you can’t just walk in … you have to have referral and voucher.
No turkey for Christmas?  Looks like a real possibility as there are not enough workers with the correct training to be able to process all the turkeys which are needed (nine million of them).  One thousand workers are needed and they mostly come from the EU but because of quarantine rules they will not be able to come to UK.  The farmers want the EU workers to avoid the quarantine rules.  There are not enough people in the UK who are able to do the job and the long training needed cannot be completed before Christmas
