UK 10th March
Conservative MPs are trying to make Boris remove the lockdown.
Health experts are worried. Professor Chris Whitty who appears on television in the daily briefing, says the pandemic is not over. If you rush back to “normal” there will be a disaster. Many people do not have the vaccine. He predicts that there will be another surge in Covid cases.
Well, that was another good promise to students! Brexit happened and the UK withdrew from the ERASMUS programme. Every year students have the chance to study in another European country and EU students come to UK. It stopped. Boris promised a new programme to let students study in any country. It turns out they will have to pay their own fees and they do not have travel costs and their living allowance is cut right back. Students say “Thanks very much, Boris!”
Buckingham Palace say that they will investigate the claims about racism that Meghan made in her interview on TV. They are sorry for the problems which Meghan had and they say they are still well-loved members of the family.
Nurses 1% pay rise – there are more arguments. A conservative minister says that nurses have a good salary with other benefits and they should be pleased to have 1%. He says there is a long queue of people who want to be nurses. He says 1% is all the UK can afford. Boris agrees with him. This is just making people more angry.
There are 300 job losses at Evans cycles shops. Managers will have new contracts – not 40 hours but 45 hours a week. All the staff will have to re-apply for their jobs. We thought there was a boom in people buying bicycles because of lockdown?
