Impact on daily life

Impact 7th August
Bank of England says it is OK to end the furlough scheme in October.  The Bank thinks there will be a lot of job losses but the Government has to help people to find new jobs.
Changes in planning laws will not help according to labour.  If you make it easy to get permission, builders will just go for low quality and quick profits.
London marathon this year on 4th October will be only for elite athletes and will be laps over a short course.  It was expected that there would be 45 thousand ordinary athletes taking part but that part has been cancelled.  The organisers say that people can run the marathon near their home – a virtual marathon – if they measure out the distances.
British Airways is due to announce the job losses for the staff today.  They say that 6 thousand have already asked for redundancy.  Some of the staff who stay on will have to accept pay cuts.  British Airways say it is because people are not travelling by air nowadays and it will not get better for a long time.
The Government is giving more money to schools – this is good news in one way as schools are struggling.  But when you look at the details schools with large numbers of BAME pupils will get less than the others.  They are supposed to get more because Black pupils for example often need more support.  The way the funding is trying to level out the payments means that BAME schools will have smaller increases.
