Impact on daily life

Impact. 7th January
No GCSE or A-level definitely cancelled this year.

Government announced on Wednesday.  Scotland and Wales cancelled the exams before Christmas.  Last week, Boris said schools were going back this week.  Then he changed his mind.  The Education Minister said the exams would be happening in the summer.  Now he changed his mind.  Teachers are angry – they want him to resign.  There is no plan so far about how teachers make the assessments – but that is the only way that the GCSE and A-level certificates can be awarded.
Covid is worsening
There in UK is a rise to over 62 thousand new cases and still spreading.  Over 1,000 people have died.  Hospital staff say the situation is terrible and not sure if they can carry on – too much responsibility and pressure.  The numbers are increasing.  It will be worse from Christmas and New Year.  And January is always the worst month for flu.
The big hope is the vaccine roll-out until March to help the people at risk.  The virus and the vaccine are in competition.  Please stay at home and follow the rules.
Brexit problems with ferries with food from UK to Northern Ireland.  They must have extra paper work when taking the ferry.  Some lorries have to be turned back.  One company from Northern Ireland sent 285 lorries to UK but only 100 could go back to Northern Ireland.  The others are stuck in UK waiting for the UK companies to complete the paperwork.  Last year, Boris said this would not happen and told people to throw the papers in the bin.
