Impact 1st September
The Labour Party proposes that the exams for next year’s GCSE and A-level should be delayed by one month or at least some of the topics in the courses should be reduced. This because kids in year 10 and year 12 have missed nearly 6 months in school and so teachers did not teach the kids these parts of the course.
All schools in England are returning this week and next week. Many teachers and parents are nervous of the situation despite the reassurances of the government. It is easy for small schools to keep children apart but large schools with over 1,000 pupils will have a lot of difficulty. They say the children will be in a bubble…. But the bubble could be whole year group – that could be up to 300 kids. Too many and too much crowding in classrooms according to teachers and some parents.
Over 70% of headteachers are concerned that the test and trace system in the UK is not reliable. This makes it difficult to reassure parents that children and families will be safe when the children return to school.
The Government wants office staff to return to work. One of the reasons is that restaurants and take away shops in the city centres are not getting customers if there are no office workers. Pret a Manger is an example and says they will lose 2 thousand nine hundred jobs. Big companies and Local Councils are telling their workers that they can carry on to work from home. They are working very well.
