Now we know the extent of the financial problems we will have for years to come. Today they announced today what and where the new Tiers will be. It is confusing because the Government says the tiers should be more strict and 99% of the country is in the higher tiers. At the same time people can move about and shops are open again. Hairdressers and sports can have spectators. Only pubs and restaurants have to close.
The Government says that mass testing of people in Liverpool has made the virus cases go down and Liverpool is not in Tier 3 but goes down to Tier 2. The World Health Organisation said months ago that there should be mass testing. China did it. It has taken England 8 months to get started.
Students in Manchester have got a 30% rent cut because of the problems due to Covid. They were isolated and in one case there was a fence put around the hall of residence. The students broke the fence and there has been a protest ever since. The University says they will have to give back about £4million to the students.
The Oxford vaccine will need to have some new trials. It looks like there was an error with some of the tests they did. Some younger people were given half doses of the vaccine and this was successful but the numbers were too small so they will need to carry out more tests before the vaccine will be accepted.
