Impact on daily life

Impact. 18th November
The EU has been funding a very large number of projects across the UK which help small businesses and social development.  Wales has a large proportion of this money (they voted to leave the EU).  The Conservative Government said in 2017 that they would replace the EU funding and said they would set up a UK Shared Prosperity Fund.  In 6 weeks time, UK will not be part of the EU and surprise, surprise, there is no UK fund to replace the money.  In fact, it has not even reached a planning stage.  A range of organisations and local councils have been trying to press the Government.  There is supposed to be a consultation – it has not happened yet.
Boris announced a new plan for a “green industrial revolution”.  He says they will spend £12billion on this and create 250 thousand jobs.  Labour says this is not really a new investment.  The big plan is to stop selling petrol and diesel cars by 2030;  to increase energy from wind turbines; to develop hydrogen technology for heating; more nuclear power; more house insulation.  Environment groups say this is good but will not solve the problems of climate change in the UK.
The Department for Education has told schools that they should stock up on food because there may be disruption when UK leaves the EU in January.  They say the schools still have to provide school meals.  They have to plan for delays.  The idea is that they should buy in food which can last longer.  Looks like the schools have to be responsible if the Government does not have a deal.  A survey found that half of headteachers are thinking of leaving.  Too much stress caused by the virus and lack of funding.
