Impact on daily life

Impact for 8th January
Postcode Lottery for Vaccinations

Many medical centres have not had their supply of vaccinations which have been delayed.  Appointments for patients postponed several times. Some centres say they could inject people 3 times more than now but where are the supplies? More than 1.5 million people have had the 1st dose. NHS will have 1,000 hospitals and GP clinics ready by the end of this week with 7 huge centres set up to give jabs in UK. Govt promised to have mass injections for all vulnerable and elderly groups everywhere fast. This should be finished by middle of February.
Hospitals full up with Covid
Some London hospitals have 50% of patients with Covid.  Many hospitals have cancelled regular operations and cancer care to make space for Covid patients. Nursing staff and doctors are exhausted – many working very long hours; some 36 hours without breaks.  Not good for their mental health and well being. Many are off sick from work so hospitals and clinics do not have enough staff.
New life saving medicines for Covid
Two new medicines can cut deaths of the patients who are really sick by 25%. Can save an extra patient for every 12 who are being treated. Available straight away in NHS. Now over 30,000 Covid patients are in UK hospitals – nearly 40% more than last April.
