Impact on daily life

Head teachers are angry that the Government
only told them the day before that mask rules were changing.  Now pupils have to wear masks in corridors and other areas where they have to mix.  The Government also said that teachers who are vulnerable or have an additional illness should not go to school.  When teachers stay home, the school has to pay for supply teachers and that is expensive.
Residents in care homes can have visitors but it has to be covid-secure – social distance, and masks and PPE.  The care home could set up covid secure visiting areas with screens floor to the ceiling and even places outdoors.
More than 7,000 people are to lose their jobs.  Sainsbury’s says 3,000 jobs are going.  John Lewis, Clarks, Lloyds Bank and others have also said there are to be job losses.  The supermarkets have to cut costs so that they can compete with Aldi and Lidl.
Wednesday there were over 25 thousand new cases with nearly 500 deaths in the UK.  At the same time, people were rushing out to restaurants in London in order to beat the lockdown.
The Government confirms that all outdoor and indoor sports clubs have to close in the lockdown.  There can be one to one coaching outdoors and people are allowed to exercise with one other person or member of their family.  There is a worry that this could be difficult for younger people who will not be able to exercise.  It could affect their mental health.
