Impact on daily life

Fishy protest in London
Big trucks parked next to the Houses of Parliament.  Why?  They say they cannot send fish from UK to the EU because of the red tape from Brexit.  Fishing boats do not go out now because what it is the point?  If they catch the fish, put in lorries, then they get stuck at Dover or are sent back.  The fish is rotten very quickly.  They have to fill in lots of forms.  One lorry got delayed 24 hours because they put “UK” on the form instead of “GB”.  Government says teething troubles.  Fishermen say Brexit is a disaster.
Hospital news is not good
More people are in hospital now with Covid – more than ever before.  Over 34 thousand, 15 thousand extra since Christmas Eve.  Increase in numbers of young people.  And over 37 thousand new cases on Monday.  Concern that some areas are much faster in getting the vaccines out.  Hancock praises the “jab army”.  He thinks there are acts of kindness … like grandson helping grandmother to book vaccine appointment.  Hmm.. Now they will give vaccine to people over 70 – not sure when for the essential workers (for example, DeafStation people).
Audi runs out of chips
Not the canteen, these are the computer chips needed for cars.  Modern cars are just like computers on wheels.  Many of the big car factories have slowed down or stopped due to Brexit delays for parts to arrive from the EU and illness in the workers due to Covid.  The companies affected: Mercedes, Fiat, Ford, Honda, Nissan, Toyota .. all have to stop production for days or even weeks.  They say some of the shortages of parts are 6 to 9 months delay.  Oh dear.
