Impact on daily life

Impact 16th November
Have you seen the word “chumocracy”?
It is like democracy, except it is all about helping your chums/mates and mate’s wives.  About £1.5billion has been given out to people who are friends of Boris or friends of members of the Government.  This was supposed to help control the virus but these people had no special skills to work in a medical crisis.  There is a network of advisers and mates.  The worry is that they are leaking information as well, so other people can make profits.  The result is we have a lockdown, people out of work and families using the food banks … and another group of people getting rich.
That includes the big supermarkets.  They all got nearly £2billion tax relief on their business rates because of the virus but instead of using this to help ordinary people, most of the savings the Government gave, was paid out to the shareholders of the supermarkets.  No wonder services to disabled people are not a priority – the money is going out in a different direction.
Many people are worried that their older relatives (especially with dementia who are in care homes will not be able to remember them.  They have been apart for over 6 months and using video calls with an older person with dementia does not work very well
Diwali celebration for Hindus is now … people celebrate giving gifts with friends and family.  They light oil lamps or candles to show victory of light over darkness.  No fireworks this year.  Most families told to stay at home because of the virus.  The UK Chancellor, Sunak is a Hindu and will be at home with family.
