Impact on daily life

12th May 2020
These are details of the 3 steps from the Government publication regarding the lockdown.
Step 1
Work
For now and for the near future, workers should continue to work from home not their normal physical workplace, wherever possible.
If you cannot work from home? The you should go to workplace when it is open. Workplaces to open, are food production, building, manufacturing, logistics, distribution and scientific research in laboratories.
Anyone who has symptoms, even mild, or lives with someone with symptoms, should not leave their house to go to work. Those people should self-isolate, and other people in that house.
Schools: The rate of infection is too high to allow the re-opening of schools for all pupils just now.
Travel:  everybody (including key workers) don’t use public transport if you can. Try to cycle, walk or drive, to reduce your close contact
Social distancing guidance on public transport must be followed rigorously. Buses, Trains, Underground has to have strict social distance.  Face-coverings
People should wear a face-covering where they come into contact with others that they do not normally meet, on public transport or in some shops.
Homemade cloth face-coverings can help reduce the risk of transmission.
People can now have time outdoors
BUT:
* meeting up with only one person from outside your household;
* remain two metres (6ft) away from people outside your household;
* good hand cleanliness, particularly with surfaces which people touch;
* Managers who are responsible for public places have to set up new arrangements to keep people safe.

You can exercise outside as many times each day as you wish.
Can include angling and tennis, even golf courses.
You can’t use areas like playgrounds, outdoor gyms or ticketed outdoor leisure venues, where there is a higher risk of close contact and touching surfaces.
You can only exercise with one person from outside your household.
You can drive to outdoor open spaces – any distance, but still respect social distance
There are different rules in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.  You have to follow their rules also
People in clinically extremely vulnerable group are strongly advised to stay at home at all times and avoid any face-to-face contact; this is called ‘shielding’. Do not leave the house or go to gatherings at all – some small exceptions.

Step 2 which will be later
A return for early years and schools.
Schools should prepare to begin to open for more children from 1st June. Expect children to return to early years settings, and for Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 to be back in school in smaller numbers in class, from 1st June.
Secondary schools and further education colleges begin some face to face with Year 10 and 12 pupils.  They have key exams next year.  Also continue remote, home learning.
The aim is all primary school children return to school before the summer for a month.
Opening non-essential shops (clothes, books etc) when safe.  Shops to follow the new guidelines. This starts from 1st June.
Government will allow cultural and sporting events behind closed-doors for broadcast TV – avoid the risk of a lot of people together.

Step Three. Not before 4th July

The aim at this step is to open at least some of the remaining businesses and premises that have been required to close, including personal care (such as hairdressers and beauty salons) hospitality (such as food service providers, pubs and accommodation), public places (such as places of worship) and leisure facilities (like cinemas). They should also meet the COVID-19 Secure guidelines.
