Impact on daily life

Impact  12th October
Local lockdowns are happening in the North of England.
So pubs are closed.  But people are just getting taxis into the nearest area where are no lockdowns.  That just spreads the virus to the next town – but taxi drivers are happy to have the money.  There are very large differences between north of England and the south.  Some say this is because more people in London got the virus the first time around and have some immunity; others say more people in London can work from home.  Although this second wave started with younger people, there is an increase in people over 60 years and they are more likely to end up in hospital.  We have to hope that the Government can get control of the situation.
This is supposed to be the last week when Brexit discussions have to be sorted out.  There has not been enough progress.  The big issue is about who gets to catch fish and where.  But there are also other problems like how to make sure UK does not give funds to support companies who can then charge less than the EU.  Also there is no agreement on which qualifications are the same between UK and EU or on how to share information about criminals and terrorists.  It looks like you will need to have an international driving licence to drive in the EU.  After January, you will need to buy travel and health insurance and the EU card (for free health care) which is used just now, won’t work then.
Looks like Edinburgh Woollen Mill will close down – 24,000 jobs could be lost.
MPs are going to court to force the Government to give information on the contracts they have been given out, without proper competition.  Over £11 billion has disappeared without explanation.
