Impact on daily life

UK. 15th February
The number of new cases of covid is going down
.  The Government is talking positively and they hope that slowly, life can go back to normal.  They have reached the target of 15 million with the vaccine. The next stage people over 65 years can get the vaccine.  There is a new study to find out if young children can carry the virus.  There are cases where children and young people have long covid.
Quarantine starts on Monday with confusion.
The arrangements are not clear for people who arrive in the UK.  Who is going to check where the travellers come from and if they have booked their hotel?  How do they get to the hotel anyway?  In the hotel, they are supposed to stay in the one room but they can go out for a cigarette.  Who is supposed to go with them?  In Australia, they had problems as people escaped from their rooms.  Some security guards got the virus as well.
We have not finished with Brexit.  Boris agreed to the plan for Northern Ireland.  He said no checks for lorries crossing to Northern Ireland.  Looks like people believed Boris.  There ARE checks but the Northern Ireland Government is refusing to carry out the checks.  They want to change the agreement with the EU.  The EU are not happy with this – they say UK Government agreed to the plan.
The Government says it is too early to know if summer holidays will happen.  People in the UK ignore this and go ahead with their plans.  Companies say that there are more bookings this year than they expect.  They think this is because it is flexible – if Covid continues, you will get your money back or you can postpone until next year.
