More pressure on the Government to extend the lockdown across the country. More scientists say they have to act now if they are going to slow the virus in the next weeks. Boris still worried about the effect on the finances and people’s jobs.
In Nottingham, which is now in Tier 3, last night there were large groups of young people in fancy dress (for Halloween – 2 days early) in the streets drinking alcohol and chanting. They were just ignoring the police. For some young people the virus does not exist.
Pizza Express is losing 1,300 jobs… this is extra after 1,100 were lost in August. Not enough people in the cities are eating pizza. Pizza Express is owned by a Chinese company.
The UK is supposed to re-settle 5,000 refugees a year – that was the agreement. But this has not been happening due to concerns about virus. More people are desperate trying to cross the channel. The UN is asking UK to re-start the programme to give people some hope that they can come to the UK.
The company that owns British Airways says air travel will not recover until 2023. They made a big loss between July and September of over £1 billion. They say that the Government keeps changing rules about quarantine and so passengers are uncertain if they can travel. They want to see Covid tests for passenger before they fly.
