Impact on daily life

UK. 29th March
In UK, over 30 million people have covid vaccine.
There are some worries that not everyone will have the second jab within 12 weeks.  Government says its OK;  they say now 3.5 million have both jabs.  They have plans to give 3.5 million doses of vaccine to Ireland.  They say this is to stop the virus coming over the border into the North. From today, two families can meet up and outdoor sports can start.  Restaurants and pubs can open.  Health experts are worried that people may relax too much and we will have a third wave of covid.
After all the arguments and reports in the Scottish Parliament, they hoped it would calm down and they could get ready for the elections in May. But now Alex Salmond who was part of the problem says he will set up a new party and will be in the elections.  Many other Members of the Scottish Parliament say he is not fit to be elected because of the way he treated women.  Others just say he is continuing his fight against the Scottish National Party.
Union leaders on the railways say there is a big increase in hate crime against people with disabilities.  Unions say rail companies should not cut staff numbers.  People with disabilities are afraid to travel alone.
PM Boris has a new plan – chewing gum tax.  He said the grey blotches on pavements are due to people dropping chewing gum and it is like a plague on the street.  He cannot catch all the people who drop the chewing gum, so he wants the chewing gum companies to pay for the cleaning.
