Impact on daily life

Job losses likely at BT Openreach as they are closing down a number of centres.  They are asking for voluntary redundancies.
Government has asked the hospitals to catch up and make sure services get back to normal very soon.  The idea is that now that the virus is under control, all of the operations and appointments can be set up.  Hospital say the virus is not gone away and it is unlikely that they will get back to normal any time soon.  Many doctors are unhappy with the Government’s bad management of the virus and in a survey, many say they may leave the NHS altogether.
Hospitals in London are surprised that there are very few virus cases just now, even though the restrictions are lifted and people are able to go about and meet up.  It is possible that many people are working from home and are following the guidelines.  This is a big contrast to the North of England where cases are rising.  One report thinks this is because there are more people, who are poor, and who live in poor housing in the North.  That is a major factor.  Public health England said that one in six people in London caught the virus by June … so they may have an immunity.  In other parts of the country, very few people had the virus by June.  The conclusion is that the virus will still grow in many parts of the UK.  In the last 24 hours there were nearly 3,000 new cases – largest number since May.
