Impact on daily life

Impact  13th November
There is a new plan to reduce road traffic and to help people walk and cycle.  There is money for councils to create new bike lanes and to make it easier to walk around.  They will close off some streets where cars try to dodge the traffic jams.  The plans will start in London and then will happen in other cities.  The Government says the Councils who will have the money have to consult with the communities and not just listen to those people with loud voices.
Universities now say they want to change the way people are offered places.  They want to wait until after the A-level results before they offer places.  At the moment, students have offers based on predicted grades.  That leads to a lot of confusion when the students do not have the correct grades.  Most countries wait until the results are in before they offer places.  It looks like Britain may change the system to wait until after their exams and then students can be sure to have their places.
Almost three quarters of care workers (dealing with the virus and other health issues) get paid less than the living wage.  The living wage is the minimum needed for families to afford an old car and a week of holiday, in the year as well as pay for food.  The situation is worse in the North of England.  There are probably 600 thousand workers who are in this situation.
A nurse has been arrested and charged with murdering 8 babies in the baby care unit in a hospital.  She is also accused of trying to kill another 10.  These happened between 2015 and 2016.  The investigation is just catching up now.
