Impact on daily life

Impact 13th July
Front page so newspapers on the weekend had a picture of Boris wearing a face mask – first time!  The. Headlines said that people should wear a mask in shops.  But UK with third highest death rate from virus, people are not wearing masks.  It does not help that the Chancellor was giving out another £30 billion of our money to help business; then we see him on TV walking around a factory with no mask and even worse, serving food in a restaurant to customers without wearing a mask or gloves.  No wonder people are confused.
Looks like 4 pubs had to be closed the day after they opened because someone had the virus.  The pub managers said they reported the problem to the test and trace people but nothing was happening so they had to contact all the customers by themselves to let them know.  The health authorities say that should not happen.
Another problem:  caring for dementia in care homes.  Because of rules, relatives were not allowed to visit.  Family members who have now managed to see their relatives say that they have gone downhill fast.  People with dementia do not understand why their loved ones disappeared and many became withdrawn.  That applies also to people with dementia who had to stay at home.  Now Alzheimers groups say that relatives should be treated as key workers so that they can visit easily and provide the care.  There has been a 50% increase in deaths of people with dementia during the lockdowns.
