Impact on daily life

UK 2nd March
England research confirms Scotland research. One dose of the AstraZeneca or the Pfizer reduces risk of going to hospital by 80%.
Numbers of people in hospital due to Covid is reducing.  But new cases are going down very slowly.  Big worry at the moment is the Brazil version.  Six cases have been found but only 5 people.  They are looking for someone who was on a flight from Zurich.  The trouble is that the Brazil version transmits to people easily and the vaccines may not fix it.
Awful!  Complaints about the queue at Heathrow airport on Sunday.  Passengers said they waited in line for 5 or 6 or even 7 hours.  There were not enough custom officials on duty.  This was because of Covid rules – staff were not available.  Anyway, they are short of staff.  It was chaos with nowhere to sit down and no social distancing.
If you have children at school, you will receive a letter explaining about the testing for all secondary pupils.  Each pupil will take a test three times in the first 2 weeks after 8th March.  The young people will do the swab test themselves – staff will watch and advise.  They use the lateral flow test (cheap and quick but not all that accurate).  If positive, the pupil goes home and his or her family has to isolate.  Then there is the exciting part – all families have to give the tests to all the pupils at home twice a week afterwards.  It could help …. But the problem is that the tests are voluntary so there will be pupils in class who did not take the test.
