Impact on daily life

8th May 2020
Four families are suing the UK Government for not providing education for their children.  The families don’t have computers/laptops and Internet connections.  The families are in the South East of England.  Government said they would provide 200,000 laptops but these won’t come until June.  Only Year 10 pupils will get support for Internet access.
Families are complaining that they cannot get a refund for school trips.  The special company that organises school trips in the UK and abroad, have not been giving the money back to parents for the cancelled trips.  They just want to give vouchers for future.  Some schools are trying to claim on their insurance.
Because the schools are closed, the children who have free school meals were to receive vouchers for £3 per day to buy food in the supermarket.  There have been delays. Now some parents found that when they got the shopping and went to the checkout, the printed voucher was not accepted and they could not have the food.  Very upsetting.
The system for getting interpreters if you are contacting the NHS – doctor, nurse, hospital is now in place and easier to use.
More information is on the BSL Health Access Site
It is free.
