New fines for breaking Covid rules
There is now an £800 fine for people caught at house parties with more than 15 in a house.  Every time a person breaks the rule, the fine will double up to £6,400.  Priti Patel, Home Secretary says the police have the power and must stop people having house parties or meeting in big groups. The aim is to stop Covid spreading more and more.
University tuition fees frozen
The fees will be frozen at £9,250 until 2022  No decision yet to cut fees for this year. Education groups say government is wasting opportunities to help students.  Why? Many must pay full tuition and housing fees at full price when they are at home learning online and not attending classes.
London cabbies plan to sue Uber for damages
Thousands of taxi drivers are angry because they say Uber is not following rules and taking away their customers. They say that happened between 2012 and 2018.  If they win, the bill will be millions of pounds. Uber deny the charges.
Glastonbury Festival again put off again
The festival is usually held in Worthy Farm, Somerset every year.  The owners say they are sorry but the paid fees can be used for the festival in 2022. This is the second time it been cancelled.
Storm Christoph – bad floods and snow
There are large evacuations – 2,000 homes in Didsbury and Northern Manchester and other areas were affected. More rain is expected next week and storm warnings are still around.
